Funky Fête: More Truly Is More

For Taylor Oda of Laki Events and Design, the vision for this editorial landed outside the box: “[It was] a permission slip for romantic, maximalist couples dreaming up something out of the ordinary that blends a playful sentiment with a bold palette and a floral design that feels otherworldly.” With the help of a talented team, she brought that vision to life, layering unexpected design elements that spark the thought, “I would have never thought to put that together, but it works.” 

Florals made an unforgettable statement, beginning with a trending bridal purse by Harper Floral Co. Both beautiful and functional, the showstopping accessory offers a chic spot to tuck tissues and touch-up essentials. Tabletops were a study in maximalism, with a meticulously curated mix of colors, textures and patterns paired with high-end finishes. “We wanted it to feel like a romantic sensory experience by adding feathered floral centerpieces, velvet linens, chrome accents and candles,” Oda said, “continuing to weave in the bold color palette and opposing yet complementary layers.” 

Other highlights included a “something blue” vintage cake, color-bursting stationery and signage, and playful bridal styling featuring a blusher veil, heart-shaped hair jewels, orange and pink eye shadow, and chunky heels.
